Sarita Vihar greenest colony in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Sarita Vihar has become the greenest colony of Delhi and other colonies should also emulate the action plan chalked out by colony resident welfare association, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said on Saturday.
"Different agencies have developed 50 parks and three play fields in the locality with ample greenery in the colony itself. We must commend the efforts of the RWA in making the colony clean and green under its 'Clean and Green' movement initiated in March 2003," she said at a function organised to celebrate the 10th foundation day of the 'Clean and Green' movement initiated by Sarita Vihar RWA.

Dengue mosquitoes are breeding every where ?

Today morning at 6.15 am while taking a morning walk I noticed several dengue mosquitoes hovering around black pant of a security guard at the gate ofb block east of kailash .

Immediately I brought my camera & took some pictures as enclosed here with showing 7 dengue mosquito on the pant of the guard.
Message :dengue mosquitoes are breeding every where .This is the time to urgently identify the dengue mosquitoes & search its breeding place & eradicate the breeding place. Members of rwa have to be vigilent ,have to learn as to how to identify the dengue mosquito, have to be on the look out to detect dengue mosquitoes & if detected to search & eradicate its breeding place. One has to learn & teach for safety of ourself & of our own family members.

Most probably these mosquitoes are breeding in the covered drain near the gate.I have informed the colony secretary .

RWA brings succour to deserted woman

Thanks for the commendable news item circulated! This is what is meant "Welfare" in the real sense of the term. The RWAs and Housing Societies have to play such a vital role to give succour to such people! We must heartily congratulate and richly compliment the RWA at Pritampura who did an yeoman service to the lady which is unparalleled in our annals! The RWA has set an outstanding and shining example which could be emulated by others. Hope this draws due attention of all RWAs to enlighten them and educate them what a pivotal role they could play in the society. This is the real human selfless service indeed!

TK Balu/Anand Vihar

I appreciate the support given by the neighbors to an aggrieved lady, such should be the attitude of the society in general.

Nightmare continues for residents of Vasant Kunj

The residents of sector A and D 1-4 thought that, when road widening started in December 2012 that they are going to smooth paved road with greenery.

They are a sadly mistaken lot. The work on either side of road started with vigour with side of the road dug up  of malba etc ,then 3/5 feet ditches for drains. This damaged the BSES Cables , Mtnl cables, and also Jal Board Valves. The agencies concerned are blaming each other and expecting others to set it right.

With matter stuck on squabbles on greening, widening width with varying lobby groups yesterday rain /storm gave the residents of these pockets (all of them below road level) a taste of what is to come in monsoon which is not far away.

As it is the digs have caused endless jams   aggravating the jams that occur regularly. If the status quo continues the situation would only get worsened if URGENT steps are not taken to restart and restore the roads, drains and cables. The dug out are causing accidents to vulnerable two wheelers and those few cyclists braving the situation. The DJB says the broken valves will require custom casting so can be done only when road/widening alignment is finalised. Due to which a beautiful project of reusing treated waste water for horticulture purposes is distance dream. We get assurances from LG, CM, PWD and forest officials but no work on ground. We may be forced to seek judicial intervention, if it continues. What will happen to greening of road which was planned by PWD by planting samplings during monsoon?

RWA brings succour to deserted woman

by Smriti Singh

NEW DELHI: When Urmi Shukla's (name changed) husband decided to leave her to live with his girlfriend, she didn't know what to do. Desperate for some help, she turned to her  residents' welfare association. What followed next was beyond what Urmi could have imagined.

Not only did residents of the housing society in Pitampura, north Delhi, decide to help her fight a legal battle against her husband, they also passed a resolution to financially support her by giving her monthly maintenance till the matter was decided by the court.

It all happened less than two months ago when Urmi, who had nowhere to go for help, went to the office-bearers of Pragati Co-operative Group Housing Society, which she lived and sought help. She told the residents about how her husband had abandoned her and her two children, and had stopped her giving money to run the house. She also told them about the alleged torture her husband had meted out to her. Being illiterate, she did not know what to do.

On April 23, 2013, the society's management committee passed a resolution to pay Rs 10,000 per month to Urmi through "voluntary contributions" from some residents. The RWA made it clear that this contribution was personal and would not be made from funds received for "maintenance of the society".

The residents also went to the police station to express their solidarity with Urmi. Going a step further, the residents have engaged a lawyer for her to file a case against her husband and are actively involved in the process of going to various women commissions and tracking the case in court.

"Isn't actually helping a woman in distress better than lighting a candle at India Gate," posed one of the residents, who did not wished to be named, when asked what made them go out of their way to help this woman.

For Urmi, the support from residents of her society is god sent. She got married in 1987 and came to the capital to live with her husband in 1992. Since then, she says her life has been a living hell. "I have been subjected to emotional and mental torture. I was beaten up for not bringing in enough dowry. Things got worse in 2007 when my husband started having an affair with another woman and would not come home for days," she said.

To protect the woman and her children from harassment, the RWA has decided to not allow the husband's entry in the house. They have also registered a complaint with the police against the husband for causing "nuisance" in the building.

"I am not educated and did not know about my rights until the society members stepped in to help me," Urmi said. With the help of the residents of the society, she has been able to file a case of domestic violence against her husband and another for seeking maintenance.

Her counsel Sanjay Shrivastava said that this was the first time he had seen a woman getting such support from her neighbours. "I have dealt with many matrimonial cases in my career but this case is unique. I have never seen residents of a society coming in and fighting a case for a woman who is helpless," Shrivastava said.
