Vijay Goel organises Bijli Adalat

Former Union Minister and  convener of Bijli Andolan Vijay Goel organised the Bijli Adalat on Saturday in the Capital where hundreds of consumers came forward with their complaints regarding the Discoms & DERC. Pleased with the response and success of the Bijli Adalat, Goel said such adalats will be organised throughout the city where ever there are complaint centres or discoms. The biggest complaint of this Bijli Adalat was that throughout the year whenever there are three instances of increased consumption such increments will automatically increase a consumers load as per kilowatts but wiring and other support infrastructure remained the same.
There were huge irregularities in other cases too. In the case of one Basant Lal from Rohini slum area living in a 22 yards house was slapped with a bill of `3,12,000. In another case of a handicapped person from Paharganj who runs a telephone PCO and whose average bill is `300 was given a bill of `16,540 falsely. BS Vohra from Krishna Nagar RWA said Discoms are constantly raising tariffs whereas actually they are running huge profits. A trader from Lajpat Nagar said money is being unfairly extracted from public via enforcement wing of Discoms.

Police to form citizen panels to manage traffic

Tribune News Service

New Delhi, February 19

Having seen traffic jams in various areas, the Delhi police today announced that it would involve citizens in improving traffic management. It will form traffic consultative committees which will comprise students, professionals, RWAs and businessmen.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg said the city police planned to constitute these committees at the district and state levels within three to four weeks.

He said that this was the right time to involve stake holders in traffic management at grassroot level after having involved the community through social networking sites.

He said that in the coming week, the police will contact RWAs, market associations, professional bodies, students, eminent persons and those who wanted to contribute in improving traffic management at three levels.

A printed form will be there for the stake holders. They have to fill up the form for becoming the members of the committee.

"We will be uploading form on the Iinternet, apart from sending it to all the stake holders and those interested in improving things can show willingness by filling in forms and sending them electronically," Garg said.

Tariff revision: Discoms seek steep hikes

NEW DELHI: The sky seems to be the limit for Delhi's power distribution utilities who have now demanded hefty hikes in tariff for the financial year 2012-13 in their annual revenue requirement petitions to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission.
While the north Delhi discom, Tata Delhi Power, has sought a hike of 18%, BSES Rajdhani wants a hike of 20% and BSES Yamuna has asked for a 27% increase. And this is not the end as these hikes are not inclusive of past-year dues, which DERC had already conceded to the power companies.
Last year, when the new tariff was announced, the commission had declared that the three discoms had a collective gap of Rs 6,000 crore, out of which Rs 1,200 crore was recovered through a 22% hike in tariff. The regulator had stated that the remaining Rs 4,800 crore would have to be recovered by discoms in the next three years.
"The hikes sought by the discoms for next year are not inclusive of this gap. Their tariff petitions will be studied and accordingly a tariff revision will be announced in due time," said a senior DERC official.

Bijli Adalat tomorrow i.e. 18th February by Sh. Vijay Goel

Dear Friends,
Please join in as we have to keep the pressure up on the Govt. and to stop it from siding with the DISCOMS.Despite have proved with papers that DISCOMS are in huge profits and have been pocketing all the money collected from the consumers, without giving a penny to Govt., the Generators like NTPC, Banks or Taxes. They are still demanding further raise in power tariffs.
The Govt. thinks that this is power tariffs do not affect the common man as over the past not many protested. Come ..... Protest ..... be counted ..... or for ever keep quiet as the next lot of Power Tariffs are round the corner.
Regds.
Rajiv Kakria
