4,000 e-Ricks To Hit Capital Roads Before Games, Drivers To Be Specially Trained

Rickety rickshaw rides are set to be replaced by a world-class experience the e-rick is on its way to Delhi. Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is introducing new rickshaws a hybrid between an  autorickshaw and cycle-rickshaw that will be fitted with GPS systems.

These will be manned by drivers who will not only speak English but will also be trained to take tourists around the city's popular destinations.

While 10 of these battery-operated, eco-friendly rickshaws will be seen on city roads by next month, MCD hopes to launch 4,000 of these before the Commonwealth Games. Said an MCD official: "We hope to replace all rickshaws plying in the city with the new e-ricks. There are a total of 99,000 licenced rickshaws in Delhi."

The e-ricks will have space for two to three people and will work as feeder services for Metro in areas like Vikas Marg, Vishwavidyalaya, Chandni Chowk, etc, besides plying near popular tourist sites.

Now, You Can Drive Faster On Delhi Roads, Speed Limit Raised On Key City Roads

Now, you can travel the entire stretch of Delhi Gurgaon expressway or DND flyway at 80kmph without having traffic cops flag you down for speeding. In a move that attempts to bring road rules up to speed with ground realities and with various infrastructural projects getting completed ahead of Commonwealth Games Delhi traffic police has upped speed limits on several arterial roads in the city.

The new limits on most stretches now range between 50 to 80kmph and there are plans for further revision as more roads get cleared out in the near future. The move also puts Delhi in the league of international cities where speed limits are high on expressways and highways for quick vehicular transit and low in residential colonies and markets, where pedestrian movement is heavy.

With the changes, effective from May 20, the speed limits on all expressways is now 80kmph for cars and two wheelers. On most stretches of major roads like Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, it is 60kmph, and in residential areas, 25kmph. For trucks and buses, however, the limit has been fixed at 40kmph on all roads except residential areas where it is just 20kmph.

Police and traffic violators

Go to any corner of delhi, the storey is the same. Traffic light jumping, insane driving are the norms. Gone are the days when in connaught place inner circle, traffic would stop to allow pedestrians to cross road on zebra crossings. We have become brazen and UNCARING IN THE LAND OF BUDHA.

Situation is differnet at VIKAS MARG AND BHADUR SHAH INTERSECTION because CCTV COVERS IT.
CWG are nearing and TRANSYAMUNA AREA WILL BE IN FOCUS.
But despite common wealth games and raising issue in bhagidari meetings, there is no progress to make footh paths fit for walking even in MADHUVAN colony of IAS, JUDGES, TOP POLICE FUNCTIONARIES or in PREET VIHAR COLONY( NEW DELHI 110092.

Why MCD IS SILENT DESPITE ADMITTING 27 ENCROACHMENTS OF PUBLIC PASSAGES IN MADHUVAN ALONE IS UNEXPLAINABLE.
No wonder that even a private school in preet vihar has EMBOLDENED ENOUGH to block 15 ft road of madhuvan from NAGRAJ MARG TO PREET VIHAR A BLOCK.
Even an order of PUBLIC GRIEVANCE COMMISSION TO SDM PREET VIHAR(ISSUED IN 2009) has not dented or blunted inaction of MCD AND POLICE. Immediately police must start interaction with citizens groups at thana and dy commissioner level. POLICE COMMISSIONER MAY ALSO KINDLY TAKE NOTE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN parliamentry constituency of sandeep dixit, son of our most respectable and beloved CHIEF MIMINSTRE SHIELA JI

Transport Dept Officers To Nab Traffic Violators

The Next time you feel the urge to flout a traffic rule, think twice. In addition to the traffic cops keeping a lookout, the Delhi government's transport department will also be waiting to nab you. In a move that is aimed at strengthening the enforcement wing of the transport department, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday flagged off 35 vehicles, which will have six officers each to keep an eye on traffic violators.

The vehicles will remain on roads at strategic points and officers will have the power to take action under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

" These vehicles are a red signal for violators and a step to further contain incidents of over- speeding and accidents. This will go a long way in the strict enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Act and book offenders and take immediate and appropriate action," said Dikshit.

The officials of the transport department are empowered to carry out all that the traffic police do and more.

Surprise Test For Delhi Motorists

And you thought you know all the rules of traffic just because you hold a driving licence! The road ahead is full of bumps for Delhiites to whom breaking traffic rules has become second nature.
The Capital's residents holding valid driving licences registered in the state will be in for a surprise check of their knowledge about traffic laws and driving rules in the coming days.
After endless challans , traffic- awareness initiatives and advertisements, the Delhi Traffic Police recently came up with the idea to correct -- hopefully -- the common flaw with city motorists: little knowledge about traffic rules.
Every few days, a draw of sorts of motor vehicle licence holders will be conducted.
Whoever's name is picked, he or she will be called in for a surprise test.
In the test, the licence holders will have to answer some of the most basic questions related to the Motor Vehicle Act and other road safety laws, his or her general awareness about the traffic laws while driving and possible reaction to different traffic scenarios.

Ladies' Coaches Before Games, Says Lovely

The Metro line may extend till Jamia Millia Islamia in the third phase. Delhi transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said this in the Assembly today. He added that ladies' special coaches would also be attached to all Metro trains before the Commonwealth Games start.
He said this while responding to queries raised by RJD MLA Asif Mohammad Khan and BJP MLA Jagdish Mukhi.
The MLAs asked why Jamia Millia Islamia had not been connected to the Metro network when Delhi University's North campus and JNU had been provided with the facility. Lovely said that Jamia would be connected to Kalindi Kunj route. Delhi University and JNU were covered in the first and the second phases respectively. To connect Jamia to the Metro route is underway. The work might be taken up in the third phase, he said. If the Metro reaches Okhla, it will have a station at Jamia, he added.
The minister also assured that a coach for women would be added before the commissioning of the Commonwealth Games. The department would think of adding another coach of first-class standard.
He admitted that there is huge rush in Metro trains. Keeping this in view, the Delhi Metro has planned to add ladies coach.
The minister said that the government had been considering issuing a combine travel card for Metro and DTC buses. According to sources, the proposal was sent to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation a few months ago, but as of now it has not been cleared.

Traffic regulations and Peak Hours holiday

Today, around 6.30pm i was on service lane along Vikas Marg on Shakarpur side. Cars, scooters were parked on both side of service road. I talked to traffic constable on intersectionof Vikas Marg and Patparganj Road. He said.." Senior officers have directed us not to challan vehicles during peak hours."

I said.." But question is not of challans. Question is of parking and free flow of traffic. If traffic is not controlled during peak hours, what is the point of traffic control during off peak hours." I humbly submit, now they have plenty of motorcycle born traffic controllers. Why traffic intersections like above are kept not manned or controlled when every one knows voulme is very heavy on this intersection.

I also understand that order to install CCTVS was placed but the agency did not start the giving..giving rise to all sorts of unhealthy pracitces. Why even lines cannot be painted to keep traffic parking disciplined. I furhtersubmit, why seniors cannot adopt such locations and come out of their offices during morning and evening peak hours.

It will be helpful to curb crimes. Common Wealth games are nearing. It is necessary to put our act togather.
